LPTN state convention delegates on April 8, 2006 endorsed Joe Dumas for the District 2 seat on the Hamilton County Commission

FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE – April 11th, 2006

The Libertarian Party of Tennessee is pleased to announce that Joe Dumas, a candidate for the second district of the Hamilton County Commission, received the party's endorsement at its annual convention held in Nashville, Tennessee on April 7th-9th.

Dr. Dumas spoke at the Libertarian Party convention and gave the delegates an overview of the planks of his platform. He needed little introduction as he is well known in the Tennessee Libertarian ranks as a small government advocate. Dr. Dumas spoke about his desire to be elected and serve his constituents by never voting to increase taxation, working to repeal the mandatory vehicle inspections instituted in Hamilton County, opposing efforts to create a wheel tax, fighting the use of eminent domain, and protecting property owners from further property tax increases. Dr. Dumas also informed the delegates of his pledge to serve the voters of Hamilton County without pay and without accepting the many small perks of the office of commissioner. Dr. Dumas went on to explain to the delegates the three cornerstones of his political philosophy that would guide his actions if elected: individual freedom, individual responsibility, and government limited to its necessary and authorized functions.

Dr. Dumas is on the faculty of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He and his wife, Chereé, reside in Signal Mountain, Tennessee.
