At it's 2002 State Convention, The Libertartarian Party of Tennessee voted to endorse the anti-PATRIOT Act resolution passed by the Libertarian National Committee.
Following is the relevant passage from the convention minutes:
CONSIDERATION OF ENDORSEMENT OF LNC RESOLUTION:
The Chair brought to the floor a resolution of the
Libertarian National Committee regarding the USA Patriot Act
passed by the U. S. Congress on March 16, 2002. The chair
asked that the convention consider an endorsement of the
resolution.
Woody Russell moved that the convention endorse the
resolution. The motion was seconded. Discussion followed. A
motion to close discussion was made by Joey King. The motion
was seconded and passed. The vote on the motion by Woody
Russell: passed unanimously.
Text of the resolution is as follows:
Whereas, securing our liberties and protecting our rights are among the primary
purposes of the United States government, And, whereas, the acts of September
11, 2001 have made threats to the security of the United States a priority issue
in the minds of government officials and the general public,
And, whereas, in response to those acts the United States government has enacted
the USA Patriot Act, which sacrifices many of our liberties and curtails many of
our rights in the name of military security, thereby compromising some of the
purposes for which that government was created,
And, whereas, we do not support sacrificing our liberties and curtailing our
rights in the name of military security,
Be it resolved that the Libertarian National Committee calls for the repeal of
the USA Patriot Act.
