FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

LIBERTARIAN PARTY OF TENNESSEE ELECTS
DELEGATES FOR NATIONAL CONVENTION

(Cookeville, TN) - The Libertarian Party of Tennessee elected its allocation of twenty-two delegates for the Libertarian Party's national convention at its state convention in Chattanooga, which was held on April 2-4 at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Officials with the Libertarian Party of Tennessee point to the delegation election as an indication of how much the party has grown recently.

"For the first time in my recollection, we had to choose our delegates by ballot instead of voice vote because there were so many candidates," state chairman Ray Ledford said. "This is fantastic since our delegate allocation has increased as well."

The Tennessee delegation will choose national officers and committee members, approve the platform, and select the Libertarian Party's 2004 Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidate at the national convention in Atlanta during May 27-31.

In a symbolic move, the State Convention also chose NOTA (None of the Above) as an "alternate delegate". According to convention chair Bill Bolen "The move to select NOTA as a delegate was to express support for the Libertarian Party's popular and long held position that voters should always be given a choice of "None of the Above" on any ballot."

The Libertarian Party is America's largest and most successful third party. In the last election, Libertarians fielded candidates for 255 of the 435 seats in the U.S House as well as 25 of the 33 Senate seats up for election -- the first time in eighty years that any third party has contested a majority of the seats in Congress. The Libertarian slate of U.S. House candidates received 1.7 million votes, the first time any third party has received over a million votes for U.S. House.
