On Friday August 27, 2004 Daniel Lewis, Libertarian Candidate for Tennessee House District 26 (www.lewisdt.com/house26) had an opportunity
to take the Libertarian message to the people of his district as he participated in a "Meet Your Candidate Event" at the Thunder Creek Harley Davidson dealership in Chattanooga Tennessee. The event drew several thousand Harley Davidson motorcycle owners, a group naturally attracted to the Libertarian message.
Many of the participants were already familiar with the Libertarian party. Daniel Lewis had a chance to share with them how he can make a
difference on the state level. He also was able to introduce many of them to the Libertarian Party's 2004 Presidential Candidate Michael
Badnarik. Many in the group were excited to learn that they do have an alternative to voting for the lesser of two evils.
For those at the event that were not familiar with the Libertarian Party, Daniel Lewis used copies of the World's Smallest Political Quiz
to explain how Conservatives are Libertarian on economic issues and Liberals are Libertarian on social issues. He was also able to explain
how less government is often better than more government. In a conversation with one of the event sponsors Daniel was able to make several Libertarian suggestions for increasing the availability of a motorcycle safety course that would not involve extra taxes or government mandates.
The event served as a wonderful opportunity to share both the Libertarian message of promoting freedom in all areas of our life and an opportunity to promote two very qualified Libertarian candidates. Daniel even had the opportunity to invite several people tot he next
meeting of the Hamilton County Libertarian Party. While Daniel was talking with the Democratic Candidate from another state House race, she commented that was just about ready to become a Libertarian. Its beginning to look like 2004 will be a truly exciting year for the
Libertarian Party and their candidates. Now is an important time to remember to donate both to our national and local candidates.
